The best time to trade forex is when London and New York are both open. That is 16:00 to 20:00 in GMT+3, Riyadh time. Add one hour for the UAE.
The four sessions in Gulf time
| Session | GMT+3 | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Sydney | 01:00–10:00 | Quiet. Wide spreads. |
| Tokyo | 03:00–12:00 | Yen pairs move. |
| London | 11:00–20:00 | Biggest session. Euro, pound and gold move most. |
| New York | 16:00–01:00 | US news. Dollar pairs move. |
The market opens Monday at 01:00 and closes Saturday at 01:00. Europe and the US change their clocks twice a year. The Gulf does not. Check your broker’s clock in March and October.
Why the overlap is best
From 16:00 to 20:00 both big centres are open.
- Spreads are tightest, so each trade costs less.
- Moves are bigger and clearer.
- Breakouts are less likely to be fake.
For most people in the Gulf, this is after work. That is handy.
Pairs and news times
Trade each pair when it is awake:
EUR/USDandGBP/USD: London and the overlap.USD/JPY: Tokyo morning, then the overlap.XAU/USD(gold): London, and very active around US news.
Big news moves prices in seconds. In GMT+3:
- 15:30: US jobs, inflation and growth numbers.
- 21:00: US Federal Reserve rate decisions.
- Morning to early afternoon: European and UK data and rate decisions.
Do not open a trade in the 15 minutes before big news. Keep a free economic calendar open.
Example
Khalid finishes work at 16:00 in Jeddah.
- At 13:00 he checks the calendar. US inflation is at 15:30. He waits.
- At 16:30 the spike has settled. He takes a signal to buy gold.
- At 20:00 London closes. The move has held. He moves his stop to break even.
- At 23:30 the target hits. He is out before the thin hours.
The same trade at 09:00 would likely have drifted sideways. The spread would eat part of the gain.
Trade the pair that is awake when you are awake.
Mistakes to avoid
- Trading at 02:00 on a pair that is asleep.
- Opening a trade 5 minutes before big news “to catch the move”.
- Forgetting the clock change and missing the overlap by an hour.
- Holding a trade over the weekend at the same size as a two-hour trade. Monday morning can gap over your stop.
- Trading tired during Ramadan nights. Pick a fixed window and stick to it.

Questions, answered plainly.
What are the forex market hours in Saudi and UAE time?
In GMT+3 the market runs from Monday 01:00 to Saturday 01:00, with London 11:00–20:00 and New York 16:00–01:00.
Which session is the most active?
The London–New York overlap from 16:00 to 20:00 GMT+3, when both big centres are open at once.
Is it a good idea to trade on Friday?
Friday afternoons are often quiet and liquidity fades after London closes, so many traders close trades before the weekend.
